Supporting Student Success

The Challenge Scholars Dream Fund supports projects that benefit students and graduates of Union High School in the classes of 2020-2028. If you are a Challenge Scholar, a parent, a teacher or a community partner, these grants are for you. It’s your turn to dream big! The Challenge Scholars Dream Fund Committee has awarded all funds available for the 2023-24 school year and will no longer accept applications for the current school year. Grant application for the 2024-25 school year will be available in mid-August.

Our Application Process

The Dream Fund accepts applications and makes award decisions in the spring and fall. The Challenge Scholars Dream Fund Committee has awarded all funds available for the 2023-24 school year and will no longer accept applications for the current school year. Grant application for the 2024-25 school year will be available in mid-August.

These grants create strong relationships or supportive transitions, encourage high quality teaching and learning, build financial stability for students or encourage community-led, mutually accountable systems. Grant funds are available for projects that benefit Challenge Scholars (students and graduates of Union High School in the classes of 2020-2028).

$10,000 is the maximum available to any one school building, organization or group each school year. Partnerships are encouraged! Read the grant application guidelines to learn more. Grant application guidelines in Spanish are also available.

2022-2023 school year

  • Harrison Park School - $300
    Supporting an educational experience for Harrison Park students to connect with children from different communities and learn about other parts of Michigan, while increasing their writing and reading skills.
  • Union High School - $2,500
    Supporting the relaunch of the QUEENdom program.
  • Harrison Park School - $9,203
    Providing Project Based Learning for Harrison Park middle schoolers with our community partner, West Michigan Computer Arts and Technology.
  • Mirror Me, Inc - $1,520
    Supporting the “You Are Enough Mother Daughter Brunch.”
  • Union High School - $3,840
    To support the JROTC Military Ball.
  • Fair Housing Center of West Michigan - $6,500
    Writing to Right Wrongs program support.
  • Harrison Park School - $2,450
    Holocaust museum field trip.
